In 2001 a coalition led by the United States entered Afghanistan, for various reasons. An argument for the success of the war in Afghanistan might be based on the newfound liberty that existed in Afghanistan following the removal of the Taliban. In a 2005 speech, President George W. Bush stated "The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity." This newfound liberty was expressed in an unexpected way. This was the return of dogfighting. The Taliban banned dogfighting, finding it un-Islamic. When they were removed from power, dog fighting returned to the Afghan mainstream
